2015, Mixed Media works on paper
13” x 11” each

The African ancestors who struggled, suffered and overcame the enslavement of their people on the island now known as Haiti and the Dominican Republic are one. Without their persistence of spirit, our generation of lofty but attainable dreams simply would not exist. The senseless and degrading "willie lynching" of their descendants, therefore, is a dishonor to what the people endured and the lives they fought so hard to free into the possibility of their highest potential. Honor to the Ancestors ♥

Note: The two framed pieces are connected by a thick gold chain representing the cash crops, which held fellow human beings viciously in bondage.

Nadïne LaFond is a painter, mixed media and found objects artist creating images that explore journey and dimension through the layering of symbols. Coming from a long line of visual artists, poets and musicians, Nadïne began drawing symbols at age four while visiting family in Haïti, where she feels her original creative spark was ignited. Relying on cues from Nature and documentation of her own lucid dreaming through a mix of abstraction, symbolism and figurative elements; she layers the bird's eye view and the eye to eye encounter at once to create language for her investigations into social and cultural constructs, reflections on spirituality and technology and observations of humanity's place and interaction within the Earth interpreted both by the work itself and the viewer.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in New Jersey where she currently lives and studied at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. Since 2004, she has developed and conducted workshops for educational institutions and arts organizations in visual arts as well as music, theater and literature as an independent teaching artist.
